Publicity for World Trade Center reveals 9 11 hero Sgt Thomas
Jason Thomas of Columbus, Ohio, identified in a TV spot as the Marines explorer who helped free Port Authority officers Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin at Ground Zero, confirmed his role after producers of World Trade Center verified personal details. He and ex Marine Staff Sgt David Karnes searched rubble with flashlights and a shovel, guiding rescue teams until McLoughlin and Jimeno were saved.

Health benefits expanded for Ground Zero workers
New York Governor Pataki signed three laws to broaden benefits for World Trade Center workers who died or fell ill from exposure to smoke and dust. The bills cover families of those who die years later, with costs contested by Mayor Bloomberg who pegged potential city costs at 500 million over ten years. Officials warn effects may take decades to surface and a class action by 8,000 workers cites illnesses including sinusitis and cancer.
