County Budget Approved After Public Hearing

The Board of County Commissioners approved the new countywide budget after a Saturday public hearing. The spending plan totals 2,218,855.98 with a mill levy of 18.52, bringing the overall levy to 88.52. Included are 43.97 for Lawrence School District 60 and 24.28 for the city, plus 1.75 for the state, with drainage and high school equalization levies in play. Last year’s levy stood at 85.64, and the budget shows a 3.35 percent increase.

Cow Mutilation Reported in Baldwin Area

Work Day Set for Tuesday at 4 H Fairgrounds

Douglas County 18 4 H clubs with about 565 youths plan a Tuesday Work Day to set up exhibits at the fairgrounds for the 30th annual 4 H and Vocational Agriculture Fair running Wednesday through Friday. Clubs are assigned to specific buildings and duties including horse barn breeding, swine stalls, poultry, judging arena and more.
