Nine Mile Farm Burned Barn to Be Replaced After Lightning Fire
A lightning strike caused a large barn, silo, and gear at the Nine Mile Ranch northeast of Lawrence to burn Sunday night. The 1160 acre farm will rebuild with a larger barn and same-size or larger silo, insured to cover losses. Horses and mules were moved to pasture. grain, hay, and equipment including harness, wagons, and a drill were lost. The fire started around one o’clock after a 0.75 inch rain, aided by southeast winds. ranch residents Roy Johnson and Junius Farmer assisted with the blaze with Prof J W Evans of the University of Kansas nearby. The insurance will settle claims before repairs begin, with work aimed to be completed before fall.
