Sedgwick County commissioners seek relief from the Kansas Supreme Court after a state judge found them in contempt for not fully funding his budget request. District Judge Paul Buchanan had urged eight items totaling 493900 for equipment and salaries in the 2002 budget, ordered May 25 without hearings, and contempt was issued August 9 after the commission approved a 2002 budget without the funding. The five commissioners named are Betsy Gwin Carolyn McGinn Tim Norton Ben Sciortino and Tom Winters. Attorneys would not comment.
