The U S Census Bureau released totals showing Lawrence with 94 934 residents in 2020, below the 100 000 threshold despite city officials earlier estimating 103 351. The 8 500 person gap fuels speculation of pandemic year undercount.
A Douglas County jury convicted Shawn P. O'Brien, 50, of eight charges for offenses against five victims, including a girl aged 9 or 10 as a child victim and four women during massages. Indecent liberties with a child could carry a life sentence with no parole. Sentencing is set for September 24.
