London closes Olympics with glittering British finale
London staged a psychedelic closing ceremony featuring Madness and One Direction, a Spice Girls reunion, Monty Python’s Eric Idle, and a flag handoff to Rio. The 80,000 crowd roared as the Who, Muse, and Queen’s Brian May performed, with Kate and Harry in attendance. The night celebrated 10,800 athletes and a record medal haul for Britain, while the U S topped gold and total medals.
