City seeks injunction to halt electric wiring in Lawrence alley
The city of Lawrence asks a district court for a permanent injunction restraining R C Jackman and Rarick from erecting electric light poles or stringing wires in the alley between Massachusetts and New Hampshire streets in the 600 block. A temporary restraining order was granted in probate court on July 25 to stop work until the matter is clarified. The city contends no franchise exists to authorize the work and seeks to halt any progress as a potential ordinance violation. The hearing may be overseen by Judge Hugh Means or Probate Judge Menger as pro tem. Walter G Thiele represents the city, while City Attorney Smart declined to serve.
