Funeral services for William C. Bill Brubaker 59 of Lawrence will be 1 30 p m Monday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will be with full honors. He died Aug 10 2011 in St Joseph Mo and was born Nov 30 1951 in Lawrence. He joined the Lawrence Fire Department in 1970 and rose to captain and major before retiring in 2001. He later worked for Douglas County Emergency Preparedness and Kansas Division of Emergency Management where he led training, deployments and disaster response projects including Kansas Task Force One. He and wife Denise Peery married in 1983 and survive a daughter Stephanie and a son William Clark Will. Memorials suggested to Lawrence Humane Society American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Woman pleads guilty as lookout in Walmart robbery case
A 21-year-old woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to a conspiracy charge for acting as a lookout in a December Walmart robbery at 3300 Iowa. Jadin M. Schmutz and her husband Andrew Schmutz, 21, watched for police at the urging of co-defendants Lonnie Schaefer, 22, and William Paterson, 19, of Lawrence. Paterson has pleaded guilty to using a BB gun in the Dec. 13 robbery and faces nearly five years. Schaefer faces an October trial. Prosecutors seek no jail time for Schmutz in exchange for testimony against Schaefer. sentencing is set for Sept. 23 for Jadin and today for Andrew. Prosecutors also allege Billie Jessup and Nathan Moses were lookouts in the robbery.
