Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new DeSoto high school will be at noon Saturday with a districtwide open house at 1 p.m. Tour buses will visit Lexington Trails and Woodsonia elementary schools for facility tours. Exhibits will be at Monticello Trails Middle School. Buses depart at 1 20 p.m. for Monticello Trails and the high school. refreshments and prizes will be offered. school board members and administrators will attend.
The Kansas Department of Health environment will hold four public hearings including one in Lawrence to collect comments on a report about water quality standards. The Final Report of the Kansas Special Commission on Water Quality Standards reviews issues related to the implementation.

A 25-year-old woman and 27-year-old man reported a man peering into their bedroom window at 2 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Iowa. the suspect fled after the screen was broken but no arrest made.
