The Buckeye State stern wheeler of the Pittsburg and St Louis trade partially sank after striking the dam at riverfront landing. From Hermosillo a Mexican news agency reports Apache raids in the Ma tatian mountains near Dres. Over 200 warriors attack valleys daily, 45 people murdered in twelve days including Lazaro Valencia, a rich Ures citizen, and two officials. A convention was planned for Iola on Tuesday August 29 at 5 p.m. The representation basis was set as one delegate per 100 Hancock votes in 1880 and one for each 50 fractional votes, forming a 70-delegate body.
A Vallejo dispatch reports the Hardy Powder Co. plant one half mile southeast of Vallejo exploded today. The mixing glazing and drying house and the magazine were blown to atoms. A water tank and surrounding brickwork survived. Engineer A H Hall and superintendent was badly burned but may live. E Gram and J M Garde were killed. Fifteen tons of powder exploded.

In La Gauiteau Kansas City Aug 11 a Times Palestine Texas special reports Chess Thomas was hanged in the jail yard at two o'clock for the March murder of Hanston McMeans. Thomas, described as a bad citizen who had killed before, remained steadfast and offered a prayer before the trap sprang. He proclaimed there is a light in the valley for me as he faced the noose.
