States Change Funding for Old Age Assistance Program
Aug 11 Washington reports amendments to the social security act raise the federal match from 15 to 20 dollars monthly for each needy aged, with California already contributing its own 17.45 dollars. States would need new revenue to gain the higher federal share, as only California now reaches the maximum. The measure also freezes payroll contributions at 1 percent for both employers and employees through 1943 and shifts payment start to January 1, 1942.
