Downtown Lawrence sees high turnover amid low vacancy
An informal survey of Massachusetts Street shows a dozen storefronts in transition or with new tenants, while only a few remain empty. The Toy Store moves to a larger space at 936 Mass with The Blue Dandelion replacing the old site, and My Father's Daughter closes at 844 Mass due to taxes and rent. City officials note rising values and potential pressure on established businesses, but Downtown Lawrence Inc. calls turnover a normal cycle as Paley, an longtime property owner, argues turnover is higher recently but not alarming.
