Last year it delivered 1,800 units while donations in Douglas were lower, despite the Red Cross closing its Lawrence site in 1994. Kansas Board of Education seeks $318 million school funding boost
The Kansas State Board of Education tentatively approved a 1997 budget request to raise the elementary and secondary education budget by 318 million dollars. It would lift the per student base by about 10 percent to 4000 and increase overall funding from 1.75 to 2.07 billion. Four board members opposed the proposal as unrealistic though supporters pushed for a larger increase to offset years without base growth. The final vote will occur at the September meeting before sending the plan to the Budget Division amid Governor Graves' January budget.
