Lynching in Prospect near Bellville Illinois

August 8 reports William Tannerill eighteen enticed Minnie Hartman twelve from a farmer family four miles south of Bellville and assaulted her in an outhouse. The girl found badly bruised with convulsions and little hope for recovery as search for Tannerill continues. Richard Gaston, tied to a separate car theft gang, was arrested today.

Advices from the Ekaterina Star, Russia, report demonstrations against laws on the 3rd inst. and 4th. Three satinas of Coewacks arrived to preserve order. Eighteen of 100 arrested for the demonstration have faced military tribunals. Many innocent people were wounded or died. It also states no laws were broken despite warnings of attacks.

N P Railway to Open Pacific Freight Access

The Northern Pacific will connect about sixty miles west of Helena Montana with formal opening September 5. From August 25 freight to and from all Pacific points will be accepted and through tariffs to Portland and other coast points are being prepared. Also noted, Joseph Stout was hanged today at Rockville Indiana for the November murder of Taylor Danbar. He faced the scaffold calmly, made a final statement, and the drop broke his neck.

Missouri Governor Denies Jesse James Reward Claim

In San Francisco on August 3 Governor Crittenden of Missouri rejected telegraphed claims he promised Bob Ford 340 reward for Jesse James alive and 10,000 for dead. He says he learned Charlie Ford had ties to the Blue Cat robbery only after it occurred and had no protection offers for the Ford brothers. He has offered 15,000 for each James brother’s arrest and conviction. Judge Killips, James brothers’ attorney, is in the city but declines to comment.

Treasury to build silver vaults in New Orleans and D C

Plans are under way at the treasury department to construct silver vaults to hold the growing inventory of silver dollars. One vault would be placed at the New Orleans mint and another in the treasury basement, with a $100,000 appropriation.

A mob of about twenty five strikers stormed the Bismarck telegraph office last evening forcing the operator to quit and moving the office to the Trihyne building to avoid further trouble.
