City moves forward on 2019 budget with flat tax rate

Woman accused of driving kids into river to face competency eval
Sharron Dingledine, 26, of Columbia, Missouri, charged with first degree murder of her 5 year old daughter Ami yah Bradley and attempted murder of her 1 year old son Elijah Lake, will undergo a competency evaluation after her second hearing in Douglas County District Court. Her attorney Carol Cline said the next hearing is Aug 28 to allow the evaluation. Police say the car was driven into the Kansas River with the children inside near the river’s south bank west of the downtown Lawrence bridge.

Tragedy at Eudora High as student dies after crash
A Eudora High School student, 17 year old Astyn Hawkins, died from injuries after a single vehicle crash near 102nd Street and Kansas Highway 4 in Jefferson County. The SUV rolled three and a half times after leaving the road. she was ejected and not wearing a seat belt. She was taken to a hospital and died Thursday. obituaries note she was enrolled at Eudora High and previously attended Oskaloosa schools.
