Hemisphere Unites To Overrule Cuba At Ministers Meet
The 21 nation Organization of American States council approved an agenda for the August 16 foreign ministers meeting in Costa Rica to review cooperation against subversive activities despite Cuba's objections. Cuba denounced the plan while the United States called Cuba's nationalization of nearly a billion dollars in U S property a calculated attempt to undermine cooperation. Cuban Foreign Minister Raul Roa dismissed any resolution condemning Cuba as irrelevant while Fidel Castro linked Cuba with the Soviet Union amid rising tensions with Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

Local National Guard Unit Returns After 2-Week Stay
About 100 Lawrence National Guard members returned Sunday from a two week Camp Ripley Minnesota assignment. Commanding officer Karl Reber and Warrant Officer Don Ousdahl called the tour one of the finest. M/Sgt Bruce H Muzzy won the top award in a Battle Groups One and Two competition. No injuries or vehicle accidents. some treated for poison ivy. New armory planned on a triangle lot near Hallmark’s Plant at 2nd and Iowa with $102,000 to be requested from Congress. The unit, reactivated after WWII, has operated continuously with excellent ratings.

Three Injured In Headon Collision Near Perry
Three people were reported in fair condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a headon crash just inside Perry city limits on U.S. 24 Sunday night. Troy Wood of Topeka, Edward Pablik of Odell Nebraska, and Ernest Adam of Odell were treated for facial and head injuries. Wood faced charges for driving while intoxicated transporting an open bottle and driving left of center.
