Youth Dead in Accident Near Leavenworth
Karl H. Sass an 18 year old Easton Kansas youth was killed when his car overturned on a dirt road four miles northwest of Leavenworth. Fishermen Save 500 Fish From Drying Slough Northwest of Lawrence
Izaak Walton league members rescued about 500 fish from a rapidly drying slough on the Mitchell farm near Lawrence and moved them to a brick yard pond to keep them safe from drought. They used a milk can soaked truck to seive out the fish, spawning species including channel cat, bluegill, crappie, and bullheads, with no casualties reported. The slough, once large, now has only a few inches of water, while thousands of shad carp and gar remain, and birds flock nearby awaiting rain or further drying.
