Congress Backs LBJ on Vietnam Action

Congress approved the Vietnam policy with bipartisan support. The House voted 414 to 0 and the Senate 88 to 2, backing President Johnson after North Vietnamese attacks on U.S. ships. Morse and Gruening opposed. Goldwater and Aiken supported.

Thant and U.S. Agree on Security Council Role in Vietnam

U Thant told journalists the Security Council should not be used to settle Southeast Asia. Ilinois judge's daughters slain in Wyoming hotel

In Jackson Wyoming two 8 and 12 year old girls, Cindy and Debby McAuliffe, daughters of Judge Robert McAuliffe, were killed in their bed at Wort Motor Hotel. A 21 year old transient named Andrew Pixley was arrested after entering via a broken window and bludgeoning one girl with a rock. A sister, Susan, 6, survived. the father found the suspect feigning drunkenness.

Offenders Shy Wife Beaters Not Hulks

A pilot study of 12 middle class Massachusetts families found that most wife beaters were shy, hard working “mother’s boys” with drinking problems, while their wives were aggressive and sexually frigid. The couples maintained a fragile working equilibrium until a child’s intervention disrupted it. The study by Snell, Rosenwald, and Robey appears in Archives of General Psychiatry.

Amalco U S Wrecking Co of Kansas City Missouri was awarded the low bid to raze Centenary Hall at Baker University in Baldwin. Razing to start Tuesday and finish within 60 days.
