The Old West Lawrence neighborhood is a finalist in a national contest for prettiest painted places. Lawrence CVB and sponsors promoted the district, competing in the South Central Region against Eureka Springs Arkansas Saint Francisville Louisiana Washington Louisiana and Galveston Texas with judging by Rohm & Haas Institute. Finalists face national judges next month for plaques and media exposure.

Swine take stage at fair grand champion hog crowned
John Nagle awarded Gilges the show trophy as Gilges claimed the grand champion market hog with a cross bred. Tyler Trowbridge won reserve grand champion. The food sale topped $500 for an international 4-H exchange, a record aided by more food exhibits. The fair resumes with beef show at 9 a.m. Naturally Nutritious Food Festival at 6 p.m. a team penning contest at 7:30 p.m. and evening entertainment 7 to 9.

KBS director says offender list fixed
Topeka AP KBS Director Larry Welch told legislators that address errors in the sex offender registry have been corrected. He said all 346 listings were correct as of Tuesday, though three offenders’ current locations remain unknown. Earlier the KBI admitted over a third of addresses were wrong, causing public outrage. The registry had shown a former inmate’s correct name but outdated address in Manhattan.

Body found in park near shelter east of softball field
A body was discovered in a park under a shelter east of a softball field. Fire and Medical crews could not revive her. Douglas County Coroner Dr. Erike Mitchell was called to the scene. Children reported the finding to an adult who contacted 911. Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigated as a standard unattended death.
