A Missouri woman, Sharron Renea Dingledine, 26, of Columbia, was arrested in Kansas River sinking on suspicion of first degree murder and attempted first degree murder. The arrest follows the death of her 5-year-old daughter and injuries to her 1-year-old son who is hospitalized.
In this year's contest both parties hold primary races, a rarity since 1994. Three major Democratic candidates vie for the nomination as Peter Hancock reports from the race scene.
Eastern Kansas voters will decide Tuesday who will be their candidate in the 2nd District congressional race. The district has leaned Republican and has been represented the last decade by Lynn Jenkins of Topeka, who is stepping away from politics this year.
In Lawrence’s 1st Douglas County Commission District three Democrats vie for the nomination as no Republican runs. Patrick Kelly John Magnuson and Leslie Soden compete for the seat covering most north Lawrence neighborhoods west of Massachusetts Street and north of 19th Street.
