Stopps Liquor Sale Court Order Against Ralph Fusten
District Judge Hugh Means issued a restraining order to prevent Ralph W. Fusten from selling beer and liquor at 10 West Ninth Street. The Lawrence Lodge No 4 Independent Order of Odd Fellows sought the order because state laws prohibit liquor sales on property owned by the lodge. The order delays any appearance date for permanent injunction and halts the liquor business pending court review. Fusten leases the property, formerly the Coffee Cup restaurant, with a five year term and option, and recently obtained restaurant equipment and a liquor license, which lodge officials say has now been granted. The lodge, represented by Crane Martin and Snyder, argues the sale would conflict with lodge laws and could trigger state lodge action. The building was set up as a restaurant in the 1930s.
