Southwest to end open seating and assign seats
Southwest Airlines will drop its open boarding after over 50 years and start assigning seats to passengers. The carrier conducted tests and surveys showing most travelers now want assigned seating, with 80 percent of customers and 86 percent of potential customers preferring it. The plan includes premium seating on about a third of seats and a few redeye routes starting mid February.
