Osage Nation buys last St Louis Indian mound

The Osage Nation has purchased the final remaining American Indian mound in St Louis for about 230000. Principal Chief Jim Gray calls the deal a once in a lifetime opportunity as the tribe plans to demolish the Sugar Loaf house and base structures to create an interpretive historical site linked to Cahokia Mounds. Archaeological digs would be banned and regional trail plans may connect the mound to Cahokia and other sites.
