Burroughs and the life that shaped a literary outlaw
Lawrence Journal-World notes William Burroughs gained calm, wide knowledge and a habit of target shooting with friends like Gwin. The fatal shooting of Joan Vollmer, alcohol and drugs involved, propelled his writing. Burroughs fled to Mexico, later acknowledged his homosexuality, and revived his career in 1970s Kansas with influence on Lou Reed Bowie and Patti Smith.
