K U Engineering Student Killed in Highway Crash
Kansas University student Joseph John Alexander 23 of Merriam died in a Friday night crash at the Kansas 10 7 junction near Kansas City when his car struck an abutment at a filling station. He enrolled at KU in 1949 served two years in Korea and would have been a senior in chemical engineering this fall. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1949. His mother Agnes Alexander is visiting in Southgate California.

Kidnap Charges On Two Captors
BELLEVILLE Naw The government fight kidnaping charges today against two men who authorities said admitted abducting a Tulsa teenager and taking him in his dad s car across four states. The men, John Mikiyo alias John Ryan and Clarence A Rohde James Kanak, were arrested after a Breese Illinois filling station robbery chase. They admitted abducting 17 year old John B Charles in Albuquerque last Sunday and holding him in a cross state ride before releasing him in Topeka Kansas and sending him toward Tulsa. The boy later reported the crime to authorities in Lawrence.

The weather bureau reports no relief for sweltering Kansans with Lawrence facing a three to four day stretch near 100 degrees.
