Low rise offices favored over tall towers in business districts
A Kansas city convention of the National Association of Building Owners and Managers heard that buildings under ten stories may be more profitable than skyscrapers due to land value, foundation costs, and potential repurposing. Edwin E Jewell of Omaha argued land values rise with population, not height, and that shorter structures spread business districts, improve safety and health, and offer lower costs. He cited studies showing lower construction costs with concrete over steel and noted revenue patterns from office buildings in earlier years.
