Lawrence to weigh a large youth fieldhouse plan with KU
Lawrence city leaders negotiate with two private developers and Kansas University to build a 180000 square foot youth fieldhouse on Sixth Street and the South Lawrence Trafficway with eight basketball courts and a track. The plan includes a 24 million dollar city lease purchase over 20 years and operation costs, aiming to attract major tournaments and boost hotels, restaurants, and shops despite Lawrence’s smaller population. Morningstar notes the project could succeed with strong cooperation among community groups, while officials study projected operating subsidies and regional demand.
