Holocaust survivor sues for back wages against German firms
Holocaust survivor David Fishel, aged about 67, has sued descendants of several German wartime companies including BASF Hoechst Bayer Krupp and Daimler Benz seeking back wages and punitive damages for slave labor during World War II. He spent 3 1/2 years in camps including Auschwitz sub camps, surviving by hiding under bodies and enduring brutal conditions. The case challenges jurisdiction and statutes of limitations and marks a rare U.S. effort to obtain back wages rather than reparations for survivors.
