Accident Ruling In Scissor Case
A Chicago coroner's jury returned an accidental verdict in the death of Joseph Olsen. A doctor found surgical scissors in Olsen's abdomen, ruling he died July 24 from arteriosclerotic heart disease and foreign body complications. The jury could not determine how the tools entered his body. Olsen died at Worldlawn Hospital on Chicago's South Side after a June 28 operation for adhesions. Pathologist Dr. Francis A. Archer performed the autopsy. Dr. Edward Goldberg, who did the adhesion surgery, testified the site was too small for the instrument to be left there. Olsen's wife, Doris, said her husband complained of gas pains after the June 28 procedure.

Orioles doubleheader ends in win and head injury scare
Brooks Robinson, a 21-year-old rookie from Little Rock Arkansas, was beaned by Ned Garver in the fourth inning of the second game. He required ten stitches for a gash but no fracture was found on X-ray. Robinson remained in Union Memorial Hospital for observation after the injury that cast a pall over Baltimore as the Orioles swept Kansas City 5-4 and 10-2. The doubleheader also featured Mickey McDermott’s unusual debut at first base and record-tying plays by Hector Lopez. The night included a police-like baserunning sequence and a series of defensive highlights amid a busy Kansas City trip to last place in the AL.
