Absentee ballots may name sheriff candidate in Douglas county
A county court note says absentee ballots could decide the Republican sheriff contest in Douglas County. Charles E. Banning leads George Price by 34 votes based on unofficial final returns. County Clerk T. R. Gerhart says 108 Republican and 14 Democratic ballots were mailed to out of state residents and will be counted at the first September meeting likely September 6. In state absentee ballots are to be tabulated next Tuesday. The commissioners canvass the regular county vote Friday at 10 a.m.
