Kansans return to flood damaged homes and businesses
Flood cleanup began as water declined across 17 Kansas counties designated federal disaster areas. In Manhattan the stench rose from washed away lagoons and agricultural chemicals while many residents moved back to Fairmont, Hunter’s Island, and Dix Addition areas. In Kansas City Kansas evacuees returned to Armourdale and Central Industrial districts with most reporting a smooth return to normal life. About 1,600 remained displaced in Muncie and Wolcott neighborhoods, where A-1 Mobile Home Court faces a likely non return. Bar ton Solvents evacuation was lifted after a chemical tank near shifting soil prompted precaution. Six bridges and over 20 roads stayed closed amid flood damage. Missouri and Kansas rivers continued to fall.
