WOUNDS A BANDIT
A young man believed to be Walter Jones alias Ralph Hunt was shot and seriously wounded during a failed robbery at a filling station in Arkansas City Kansas. He was armed and challenged by a night officer after climbing from a wing. Four shots were fired and the man was wounded in the side. Police believe he is tied to forged checks circulating in Lawrence earlier in July. Chief Will Johns investigated and identified connections to Houk and Green, Harry Green, and several local merchants who accepted bad checks.

Robbery Suspects Meet Law Enforcement on Highway Near Topeka
E A McEnroe of Kansas City says two strangers hijacked his Chrysler on Seventh and Arkansas, forced him out, and sped toward Topeka. The suspects William Thurman and Charles Clark, both of Chicago, were arrested near Topeka after lawmen tracked them down. They claim they were hitchhiking to the Pacific coast from St. Louis while McEnroe files charges of highway robbery and grand larceny. The men were held in County Jail as officers from Lawrence and Topeka questioned them.
