Genealogist Enriches Community History Through Lives Across Time
Lecompton resident Iona Spencer, a 87 year old genealogist, spent decades building family histories that illuminate Civil War era and Lane University ties. Her work with the Lecompton Historical Society connects distant relatives, preserves local memory, and inspires nationwide interest in Kanwaka and Big Springs families.

Festival shows growth of Focus Film Festival in Kansas
Since 2006 the Focus Film Festival has expanded from four high schools and 11 films to 14 schools and nearly 80 films in this year's edition. Lawrenc e High School sponsored the seventh annual event at Liberty Hall. Student organizers Bailie Richards, Lauren Fleming and CJ Roush earned several awards, with Best Animation going to From the Farm to Your Table and Fan Favorite to The Road. Lawrence High earned eight awards including Best in Show for Kenty Ashcraft, Savannah Jones and Maria Navarro. Deep Breath earned professional film editing software.Overall 16 awards were presented with each winning film shown to the audience.
