Used boats sold by individuals in Kansas are not taxed, but retail dealer sales incur tax. The double taxation concern stems from statutory rules governing successive taxation.

A Saturday incident involved a pickup rear ending a horse trailer on North 1600 Road trapping two horses for about an hour until a veterinarian sedated them and responders used saws to open the trailer. No horses were injured and the driver was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The Kansas Capital Area Chapter seeks nominations for the Jan Ogan Distinguished Nurse Award honoring 50 years of Red Cross service.

A Baldwin man reported burglary and $1,000 damage to a Deere 6400 tractor between Friday and Saturday in the 300 block of West 4th Street. A Lawrence resident reported a house fire in the 1200 block of North 1100 Road causing $2,500 structural damage and losses. An injury rollover occurred west of 31st and Louisiana at 6:50 p.m. four teenagers were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A separate two-vehicle crash at 23rd and Naismith sent Grace Cleaver and Fred Cleaver to LIMH. Fire and ambulance calls followed with multiple medical emergencies, false alarms, and transfers recorded citywide Friday and Saturday.
