KU business school dispute ends with no clear winner
Former associate dean Bruce Bublitz fired in March 1999 amid a flare up over a poison tipped email by dean Sarowski. The affair involved Nelson and Erich Bublitz, with university panels upholding charges against Nelson while clearing Sarowski. Legal costs hit Erich Bublitz at about 17000 dollars, KU offered seven thousand in settlement, and public exposure followed as both sides documented the episode. Nelson presently teaches online from Utah and Sarowski plans retirement in June. Erich Bublitz now works for Ernst and Young in Kansas City while Bruce Bublitz nears appointment as dean at the University of Texas in San Antonio.

From Industry to Academia A Dean’s Frustrated Transition
Sarowski reflects on the clash between private sector tempo and academic culture during his KU tenure. He faced overlooked research funding concerns, leaked emails, and a difficult shift to university timers who value inquiry over speed. His retirement followed a national search for a successor with mixed corporate and academic credentials.
