A fire at the Rody Skinner farm seven miles west of Lawrence near the Kanwaka store caused extensive losses. A feed building, feed mill, saddle, tractor, and 50 to 60 bales of hay were destroyed while parts of the milk barn and silo were damaged. Chief Paul Ingels and firefighters saved other buildings. No loss estimate was given. The crew worked until early Sunday morning aided by a nearby pond. A separate electrical incident at McCoy Shoe Store and a shed fire at 151 Perry Street were reported nearby.

Fatal Wreck at Zarah Kansas April 30
A collision at Zarah Kansas between an automobile and a Santa Fe passenger train killed 40 year old Douglas Davidson who was alone in the car. The train was moving about 70 miles an hour and fragments of the auto were found about 100 yards from the impact site. Zarah lies roughly 15 miles west of Kansas City.
