On April 20 at Monroemeny Alabama the capitol grounds hosted a large crowd for the laying of the corner stone of the Confederate monument. The event was framed as the official burial of the Confederacy with the hill top filled by observers and a protest from the Grand Army at Albany. The foundation measured thirty five feet square and the corner stone bore raised inscription.
