Kennedy weighs Laos options as SEATO meeting planned

President Kennedy and advisers discussed actions on Laos from waiting for a cease fire to possible U S and Allied intervention under SEATO. The SEATO Council in Bangkok was to review the Laos crisis while officials warned Congress and prepared possible weekend consultations.

Peace emissary fails as Laos truce bid stalls

In Luang Prabang a government emissary with a white flag failed to contact pro-Communist Pathet Lao rebels in no man's land while Phoumi Nosavan urged restraint and sought a cease-fire. King Savang and Sihanouk discussed possible compromises as diplomats watched the Laotian crisis unfold amid a royal cremation ceremony.

Brannon Indicted On Perjury In Kansas City

Bernard C. Brannon former chief of police and two top officers were indicted by a Jackson County grand jury on perjury charges. Major John J. Harvey chief of detectives was arrested with them. Sheriff Arvid Owsley said a warrant had been issued for Brannon who has been on leave since his dismissal April 19. The grand jury also charged Brannon with misconduct in office. The panel returned seven indictments Friday. the board said crime reports were juggled and 458 burglaries in 34 months were not reported to the records center. They cleared Brannon of personal wrongdoing despite supervision breakdown.

Baldwin Plans Centennial Day Parade May 9 in Baldwin

An hour long parade carnival and dance mark Baldwin Centennial Day on Tuesday May 9. Santa Fe Caravan from Olathe arrives 1 30 p m to lead the parade followed by a Conestoga wagon team. Lawrence High School Orchestra Plans Spring Concert Monday

Splash Day Turns Into Bash Day in Galveston

Ferguson Talk For Law Day Here Monday

Attorney General William R. Ferguson will speak at the fourth annual Law Day program at 11 a.m. Monday in the District Court room of the Courthouse. Lawrence Mayor Ted Kennedy signed a Law Day proclamation, inviting the public to attend as May term District Court opens. Ferguson will also address students at Lawrence High School Tuesday morning.
