Wood Maintains Narrow Lead in New Jersey Primary

Maj Gen Wood extended his hold on the New Jersey preferential presidential primary as incomplete returns showed him leading Sen Hiram Johnson by about 672 votes with many districts still missing. The vote tally favored Wood 51 920 to 51 209 in one update and indicated 11 district delegates for Wood to 10 for Johnson with three unpledged. Timber workers in Wisconsin and neighboring regions planned a May 4 walkout amid industry sentiment.

In Ohio on April 29 Senator Warren G. Harding led General Wood by about 15 186 votes with 19 percent precincts left. Harding appear ed to win 39 or 42 of the state's 48 Republican delegates to the national convention with the rest pledged to Wood. Campaign manager Harry M. Daugherty lost a delegate at large race. Caillaux in Paris faces five year outside zones after a sentence for commerce with the enemy.

Dean Frank W Blackmar head of sociology at the university has been notified of his election to the board of electors for the Hall of Fame of New York University for the fifth time. Elected when the board began twenty years ago he has served at each election as it occurs every five years. The NYU senate fixes annual names and the number of new members and forwards lists to electors who select the honorees. The board comprises prominent Americans with broad knowledge of history.

Juniors Win Interclass Baseball Thriller Over Seniors

In South Park the juniors defeated the seniors 16 to 6 in the high school interclass tournament round two. The juniors surged ahead with 9 runs in the seventh inning after trailing until then, while the game remained close otherwise. Next week the sophomores face the juniors and the seniors meet the freshmen. Mrs. Myrtle Bair leaves for Hot Springs Arkansas to recuperate.

School Children Have Bad Teeth in Lawrence Grades

Nearly all who failed for promotion were found to have bad mouths. Of 1158 examined, 185 had good teeth. Cordley led with 21 percent good, Woodlawn 13 percent. Special promotion students averaged 77.5 percent good teeth. those failing 92 percent had had teeth.

Topeka Meeting Draws Lawrence Attendees for Leadership School

One hundred Lawrence residents are expected at the annual Christian Leadership convention and training school at Grace Cathedral in Topeka from May ? through May 5. Trinity church will have no services May 2 as Rev. E A Edwards and many congregants attend. About 1,000 people are anticipated to attend the leadership school this year as the Kansas Diocese sees strong organization and interest attracting inquiries from other states.

Local youths sign for Elm Dale state Y M C A camp

Nine local boys have enrolled for the Elm Dale state high school YMCA camp on May 7 8 announced by Secretary Howard Boltz. Leader L M Emmet will head the local delegation. Five Die In Midwest Train Collision Near Sanborn

Five people died and twelve were injured when passenger trains 516 and 517 on the Chicago and North Western collided head on near Sanborn Minnesota in the early hours. Misinterpreted orders reportedly caused the meeting point to be at Sanborn instead of Lamberton. Four cars and both engines were wrecked.

Foster alleges election fraud in Kansas City mayoral race

Mathew Foster who ran as a Republican and lost to Democrat James G. Cowgill in Kansas City seeks a circuit court order to open ballot boxes and establish the correct result.
