KU counselors under strain as student mental health need rises
KU runs seven full time counselors for 22,875 students across Lawrence and Edwards campuses, a ratio far from the IACS guideline of one counselor per 1,000 to 1,500 students. CAPS and the KU Psychological Clinic serve most students, with wait times of three weeks or more to see staff. New director Michael Lynch Maestas will review staffing, aiming to improve access amid a broader push to address campus mental health.
