Bates honored with President's Award for desegregation victory
Gladys Noel Bates, who sued Mississippi teachers in 1948 and won in 1952, was recognized Friday with the President's Award at the National Conference of Black Mayors in Jackson. Also honored were attorney Johnnie Cochran Col. Charles Edward McGee Postmaster General John Potter and AFL-CIO president William Burrus.

Snow helps battle 2500 acre wildfire near Denver
A dusting of snow cooled conditions Saturday aiding crews against a 2500 acre wildfire about 35 miles southwest of Denver. Containment rose to 50 percent with about 150 homes off limits as favorable weather was expected to push containment further today.

Skakel murder tape debate delays ruling on confession claim
Prosecutors say a 1992 videotaped psychiatric interview of Kenneth Littleton does not contain a confession by Michael Skakel to murdering neighbor Martha Moxley.
