Hoffa sec ond chance to run for Teamsters presidency
James P. Hoffa won a second chance to run for the Teamsters presidency after a five month probe by a court appointed monitor. The monitor cleared Hoffa’s candidacy despite finding he was sometimes vague and not credible in sworn statements about a top aide’s conduct, who is barred from the new campaign. Incumbent Ron Carey’s 1996 re election was overturned amid findings of a union funds scheme. Two consultants to Carey's campaign pleaded guilty.
