Property tax bills on way to Douglas County taxpayers
Douglas County taxpayers should receive their 1993 personal property tax bills this weekend or early next week. The appraiser’s office will mail the bills Friday and they will describe the property, its location and the tax due. Penalties rise from 30 to 40 percent if renditions are late, and informal appeals are allowed through May 15 with hearings and further appeals to the state Board of Tax Appeals. Second-half real estate taxes are due by June 21.

City Commission rejects 33 percent pool rate hike
Lawrence city commissioners rejected a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board proposal to raise pool fees to 1 for seniors and children 12 and under and 2 for ages 13 59. The move preserves existing 75 cent and 1 50 rates set in 1988 and delays any change until advisory review on May 11.

Baker University will host a summer music theater camp for middle and high school students from July 26 to August 1. Perry Lake opens with free camping and guided hikes
The U S Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake announces the 1993 recreation season kickoff with the Rock Creek Old Town and Longview campgrounds opening Friday for a free night.
