Kanwaka Detour to Close After May 22 Highway Work
Kanwaka detour over Coon Creek Hill will be taken out of use May 22 as a new half mile slab is finished by Ziegler and Dalton and cured by that date. Roy Elise, Resident Engineer, says the slab will ease the eight mile northern detour for Topeka and Lawrence travelers and remove ongoing detour troubles. County and township crews, led by E. E. Trueblood, continue to improve approach roads with crushed rock to smooth and drain the byway until the slab is seasoned.
