Utah Capitol prepares for quake with seismic base isolators
The Utah State Capitol is being raised slightly to install 280 rubber and steel mounts and seismic base isolators to cushion against a potential magnitude 7.3 quake. The $212 million project, overseen by the Capitol Preservation Board, aims to allow sway during an earthquake and restore occupancy by January 2008. Governor Huntsman and lawmakers will move back to the Capitol wings as renovations continue.
