City approves Ninth Street widening with parking on both sides

After a heated discussion the City Commission voted 4 to 1 for a 61 foot Ninth Street widening with parallel parking from Tenn essee to Mississippi at a cost about 37 000. Mayor Weatherway urged the wider plan as prudent for future growth. The vote also supported flower planters along Massachusetts Street and several ordinances on storm sewers temporary notes zoning and property plat approvals.

He retired as department chair in 1949 after starting in 1917 and later taught as visiting professor in Indonesia from 1956 to 58.
