Open House Planned For Two Lawrence Heights Homes
A double open house from 2 to 6 p m Sunday will showcase two ranch style homes in Lawrence Heights Addition west of Sunset Hill and south of US 40. Built by Carl Hird Jr and Norman Fuqua, the $15 000 to $16 000 houses feature birch paneling oak floors and large kitchens with built in cabinets. In Washington Connecticut author Phil Stong collapsed and died of a heart attack at his home end. He was born in Keosauqua Iowa and had lived in Washington 24 years. Wife survives.

25 Artists Represented At a Wichita Exhibition
The Wichita Art Association showcases 25 artists in the 12th National Decorative Arts Ceramics Exhibition. Lawrence and the University of Kansas lead with nine artists each, displaying blue stoneware hotties, a ceramic vase, pendants, silver wares, a rug, and other pieces. The show runs at the Association galleries in Wichita.

No Worry for Mayflower Despite Gales on Ocean
London reports gale conditions in the North Atlantic but no danger to the Mayflower II. The 180 ton wooden barque, a Pilgrim Fathers replica, was steering away from the storm toward Plymouth Massachusetts and was about 200 miles southwest of the Spanish coast. The British station said there is no cause for concern and that Mayflower is not on any reporting schedule.

Fire devastates Savanna High School in Illinois
About 100 students fled as flames destroyed Savanna High School in Savanna Illinois. The fire caused an estimated 300 000 to 500 000 dollars in damage. No students were injured, but one firefighter was hospitalized with burns. Fire Chief Fred Hungerford blamed a faulty wiring and a ventilator system for rapid spread.

KU Debaters Eliminate From West Point National Meet
