Ely Moore Sr. Dies at 86 in Lawrence Home
Ely Moore Sr. died at eight o'clock last night at the home of his daughter Mrs. Charles Seewir 501 Tennessee street. He was eighty six and had long ties to Kansas history including work with the Indian Commissioner and the state printing plant. He knew John Brown Jim Lane and other notable figures and is believed to be the first white man to sleep on the ground where Lawrence now stands. He had later worked for the Lawrence Journal and spent ten years at the state printing plant in Topeka. The funeral will be from the Seewir home Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Professor Charles Dunlap officiating in Rev. Dr. Edwards absence.
