Out of jail at Bend Kansas on April 2a James Brian escaped. Brian broke into the Missouri Pacific depot at Herrington and stole clothing. He has a prior four penitentiary sentence from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania a mine disaster at Conyngham killed ten miners when a rope failed and a carriage fell 750 feet. Governor Vardaman commuted Walsh Hughes from death to life imprisonment for the murder of Rich Jones and a planned hanging at Columbus, Mississippi next week.
New York April 24 The trial over Caesars Youngs revolver continues with pawnbroker Hyman Stero unable to identify J Morgan Smith as the man who bought the weapon. Miss Patterson and sister testifed while the scene outside court grew chaotic and witnesses described a cafe confrontation before the killing.
In Trinidad Colorado on April 24 heavy snow caused the Las Animas river to flood washing away part of a Santa Fe depot and threatening the Cardenas hotel and new depot. Three hundred men reinforce the riverbank with ties while rail cars are dumped to shore up the bank. The Rio Grande bridge carries a loaded train to prevent overflow. North South Trinidad wagon bridge failed last night. business district lacks water. A Fort Worth to Colorado passenger train was stranded four hours at Emery Gap and later freed by local crews. The river rises forcing evacuations from the lowlands as forecasts warn of further high water if warmth persists.
Glenwood Springs Colorado April 26 President Roosevelt's hunting trip yielded three bears killed by the party with the president scoring one bear another by Ir Lambert Stewart of Colorado Springs accompanied by Courier Chap man reported. The hunt country is snowbound with fifteen feet of snow beyond the divide and no crossing expected. The party named this area the best bear country in Colorado and note bears are so plentiful some escape. The president killed a brown bear praised for its fine pelt. Secretary Loeb left for New Castle to visit again.
Muskogee I T April 26 Potatoes expected to boom in the Arkansas river valley as a stock company with 24000 capital forms in this city to plant and market tubers. Already several thousand acres set aside for potato raising with plans to plant next spring and ship by barge to Memphis and New Orleans.
Sheriff Hanshaw appointed receiver to take charge of a farm occupied by Metre Bheagh a Hussstan farmer after Husels refused to work the farm. Foreclosure by Casper Tirol on mortgage in February. Mortgage law allows eighteen months to redeem. Court found use tearing down barns and fences for fuel.
In St Louis at the world’s fair closing, the Ferris wheel will be blown up with dynamite after removing all other structures. Fire and demolition teams will place charges under the wheel to topple it, expected to fall on its edge into a heap of scrap iron.

J M Leach, treasurer of American Security Contest Company, arrested on a United States district court warrant. Federal grand jury indicted Leach and another officer for using the mails to defraud in a lottery and get rich quick scheme offering prizes in contests. Leach pled guilty and posted bond. other officer’s name withheld. Judge McPherson had urged focus on similar schemes in Kansas City.
New York report says Marie Trucci four years old was found dead in a two room apartment on Spring Street with valuables missing from Mrs Bucci who boasted of a large sum carried on her person. The scene showed torn clothing and marks of violence, and a cloth stuffed down the child’s throat likely causing suffocation. Police investigate possible motive and suspect.
