KU Celebrates 140th Arbor Day on Mount Oread
KU marks 140th Arbor Day anniversary as Replant Mount Oread program preserves campus trees. Since 2012 the initiative has closed the tree gap by planting 175 trees and adding irises and shrubs, restoring the campus landscape started under Chancellor James Marvin in 1878.

Walkouts rally draw hundreds at Lawrence schools
Lawrence High School saw about 300 students walk out as part of the National School Walkout. A later rally at South Park drew roughly 600 participants, mainly students, with attendees from Liberty Memorial Central Middle, West Middle, Free State High and other middle schools carpooling in. police were on site for safety. Excused absences totaled 1,293 across four middle schools and two high schools, up from 285 the prior Friday, though district cautions about varied reasons for excused leave.
